Introduction
Rapid changes in the way organisations operate have generated a new management and business development tool: electronic-mentoring.
Electronic mentoring is the exchange of targeted and useful information between a pre matched mentor and mentee via electronic communication.
It presents an exciting and new medium of learning and providing a means of developing meaningful, productive relationships through modern technology.
The huge potential of electronic-mentoring and lack of development of it was identified by Kevin Hunt of Circle Squared Europe Ltd. Initial research also showed that although electronic-mentoring was producing positive results in US academic and charity led organisations, it had not yet been applied to models assisting business development, particularly that of small and medium sized enterprises.

Nigel Griffiths, Minister for Small Business, fully supports e-mentoring and comments;
“Running a small business can frequently be a lonely and foreboding experience".
“The e-mentoring scheme combines the immediacy of the internet with hands-on expertise to provide a helping hand for small businesses”.
